EDUCATION

Discipleship Class

In February, the class spend a session learning about the Roman Catholic Church, the United Methodist Church, and the American Baptist Church. This month, they will spend some time comparing and contrasting the different Christian traditions. Then they will take a look at Judaism and Islam, and do some comparing and contrasting between those great world religions and Christianity. Before discussing Judaism, members of the class, their sponsors, and their parents will attend Friday night worship at Temple B’rith Kodesh.

Mission Statement

"The mission of the Board of Christian Education of the United Church of Pittsford is to promote life-long learning and spiritual growth among all members of the congregation, under the guidance of the Holy Scriptures, in a safe and caring environment. It is the responsibility of the Board to provide the guidance, structure, and resources needed to develop and administer educational and support programs from infancy through adulthood."

Cribbery

This service provides child care for young children during the worship service.

The Cribbery room is for children up to age 4.  It is located by the stairway at the back of the social hall.   There are always two adults present in the room to provide a safe environment and loving care for the youngest members of our church family.

Creative Time

The Creative Time program is recommended for children age 4 through second grade and occurs during the second half of the worship service.  If space is available, older children are also welcome to participate or help the adult supervisors.

Sunday School

Sunday School is available before worship service, from 9:00 to 9:45, for children in grades pre-K through 6.
All classrooms are on the third floor. We welcome new students throughout the year. We encourage parents to attend the Adult Conversation, but you are also welcome stay on the third floor and relax with a cup of coffee and other parents while your children are in class

Although we don't offer a high school Sunday School class during this hour, we have a very strong, spiritually-oriented youth group that meets Sunday evenings. High school students are also welcome to attend the adult education classes.

Sunday Conversation

Each year, from September through May, the Board of Christian Education provides an Adult Education Class that meets in the Church Lounge on Sunday mornings from 9:00 to 9:45 am.

The curriculum consists of a number of mini-courses, each covering a different topic, with some led by the pastor, some by other members of the congregation, and some by outside guests. Occasionally, the pastor will lead a Sermon Talkback, providing participants with an opportunity to respond to and discuss the topic presented in the morning sermon.

Reducing the Risk of Child Abuse

Our church has been very proactive in creating a safe environment for our children. Our "Reducing the Risk" program has been in place for several years now, and has been used as a model by other churches that are starting to implement similar programs.
