What To Expect

Our parking lot is at the back of the church, off Sunset Blvd. If you arrive a few minutes before the start of the service, as you get out of your car you will be welcomed by music from the tower chimes. Enter the building at the lower level through the back door and head straight down the hallway into the social hall. Look for a greeter near the name tags who can help with any questions you may have.

From here, you may head towards the left to the stairway, or to the right to our recently installed elevator. Our sanctuary is on the upper level.

If you have young children, you are invited to leave them in one of our two childcare rooms. The Cribbery (at the back of the social hall, just up a few steps) is for infants through age 2, and Tiny Tots (up the stairway closest to the parking lot) is for toddlers age 2 through 4. Each room is staffed throughout the service by two adult volunteers. You are asked to sign in and take a pager so you may be contacted if necessary during the worship service.

After a welcome and brief announcements, a time of quiet preparation follows, typically accompanied by peaceful organ music. We are then called to worship by a lay leader, who invites us to sing an opening hymn and recite a centering prayer.

Our worship experience is enhanced by the wonderful musical talents of our choirs and accompanist. During the summer, the choir takes a break, but each week we are treated to musical gifts from various members of our congregation.

Each service includes a children's moment, when all children are invited to gather on the chancel steps for a special message. After the children's time, children age 4 through 2nd grade may leave for the Creative Time program in the third floor classroom.

One of the highlights of our service is the communal prayer. All are welcome to share their concerns and celebrations with the congregation. The pastor then leads us in a guided prayer and a moment of silent reflection. This is followed by reciting or singing the Lord's Prayer ("Our Father...").

Each week, a scripture reading is followed by a meaningful meditation that relates the bible lesson to our own times and experiences. Pastor Jim's sermons emphasize God's love for us, following the example of Jesus Christ, and the movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives. His thoughtful and uplifting messages help guide us in our journey to understand how God wants each of us to live our lives.

Communion is normally served on the first Sunday of the month. We alternate between the Methodist tradition of service at the rail and the Baptist tradition of service in the pews.

After the service, please join us for coffee, tea, or hot chocolate downstairs in the social hall. (In the summer, we have lemonade and cookies outside.) At 11:15, you are welcome to join our adult education class in the second floor lounge while your children attend Sunday School.
